Unit 3 Session 2: Putting It All Together

Putting it all together

You should now be familiar with the Roman architecture and urban life at Gortyn in the Roman to Late Roman periods, and the significance of the site as the capital of the Roman province of Crete and Cyrene. You should be able to view the archaeological finds in the light of this political significance and understand how defensive building works can be seen as symbolic of the end of the Roman period settlement.

In the next session, we look closely at Venetian Khania, as an example of Mediaeval-Modern Crete.
