As you have seen in this session, the site of Khania had been occupied since Prehistoric times and was in fact a thriving city when the Venetians arrived. You should be familiar with how the Venetians expressed their domination of Khania through their architecture, and the impact they had upon the religious life of the population, as expressed through the widespread appearance of bacini in later church architecture. You should have a basic understanding of Venetian architecture and how the Venetians affected urban life in Crete.
In the next session we compare the three sites from the different epochs.
